But who is Mello Mel you ask?
"Pain-N-Fame Productions started in Newark, NJ. in 07’ By Mello Mel and CRUTCH two true hip hop heads by the way of (illtown) East Orange, NJ. Embodying elements of Hip Hop, Soul and Jazz as well as trying to preserve the sound of the golden era and true school eras, Pain-N-Fame Productions headed by Mello Mel beatmaker/audio engineer and active member of the New York AES, has steadily made progress on the Newark/NJ underground hip hop scene. With the influences of Pete Rock, Large Professor, DJ Premier, and Q-Tip just to name a few, Mello Mel and PNF was steadily following in the footsteps of those outstanding producers. In 2008 Complex Magazine awarded Izzy Grimey and Pain-N-Fame winner of the Emerging Artist & Producer Challenge, also with a video shot by Dan The Man for “Brick City is back” off of “All Nite Long” PNF’s first compilation album. Since then PNF has been involved in many beat battles on the iStandard Producer beat battle circuit, as well as teaming up with the City of Newark in 09’ for the production of “Real times in Newark” a deep inside look into the events that triggered the 67’ Newark Riots. In 2010 “Peace & War: Vol. 1 The Scientific Touch” by Mello Mel came out, which is a theater of the mind piece, blending 1950’s crime drama radio shows with hip hop instrumentals. Their latest works includes “Treez 4 Breakfast” which was produced over the fall of 2010, as well as a solo Beat Tape by Mello Mel titled “All Buttons Got Pressed On”. Pain-N-Fame represents New Jersey hip hop and authentic hip hop, working with NJ based artists such as SoyMilk Sinatra, Mc B, Alvietron, Izzy Grimey, The Morning Starz and Realest Reeken. With these artists in mind, PNF practices a somewhat lost art of create digging and chopping samples, to give MC’s a classic soundtrack to share their thoughts with the world."
